Old - new urban spa
Porubská, Dominika ; Kolouch, Jiří (referee) ; Hrabec, Josef (advisor)
The building of the former town spas occupies a leading position not only in the context of Fuchs's work, but also belongs to the top of European architectural avant-garde. Despite the unfavorable landscape conditions, realization of the Zábrdovice spa has created an environment of open sun and unlimited space, while preserving the undisturbed intimate atmosphere. The project is an impressive indicator of past building techniques and even today influences us with the atmosphere of the time of its origin. That's why it's sad that this monument is currently dwindling. The area is only partially used as a summer swimming pool. The building of the winter spa is devastating, it has a negative impact on its surroundings, destroying its potential. To survive must be the monument exploited. In order for the building to be used, it must respond to today's technical, dispositional, aesthetic and operational requirements. Here we have to address the issue of adapting the building to the present claim, often unfortunately at the expense of preserving historical value. Reconstruction of this functionalist treasure is a challenge for many architects. My endeavor was to find a compromise in which the building will adapt to the needs of people today, while retaining its functionalist spirit.
Evaluation criteria of industrial heritage - practical application
Zelik, Radovan ; Hrabec, Josef (referee) ; Králová, Eva (referee) ; Staňková, Eva (referee) ; Zemánková, Helena (advisor)
The protection of monuments in Slovakia is mostly concentrated on „classical“ examples of cultural heritage (castles, historical city centers). It is not paying much attention to industrial buildings, which are important documents of national development in European context from the era of industrialization. These buildings are often also on the edge of public interest, due to their brownfield character, what places then into the great risk. Because many of these buildings are in private hands, it is often complicated to define the protection policy. It is in the interest of healthy development of society to protect cultural heritage as part of its own identity. The thesis is monitoring approaches to protection of monuments in Slovakia, as well as in global context and offers alternative approaches in terms of protection of industrial heritage.
Restoration of the monastery in Šternberk
Sarvašová, Anna ; Kocourek, Tomáš (referee) ; Guzdek, Adam (advisor)
The subject of the diploma thesis was an architectural study of the restoration proposal of the Augustinian monastery Šternberk. The building is owned by the city, whose task is to create new functions and uses for the abbey. The city did not concretize the plans for the construction of the monastery, it was more about a vision of the future and the discovery of new possibilities. Based on the analysis of the existing domain, conclusions are drawn about the use of new functions. The abbey is centrally located and is operationally and structurally connected to the Roman Catholic Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. The monastery also has a garden, which is currently inaccessible and unused. The plan is to revitalize the garden and build an underground parking lot that will serve the monastery and the city. The garden will be open to the public and at the same time will allow access to another part of the city. Revival of the monastery and its gardens should make the location more attractive and attract people to the city. The goal of the proposal is to create a high-quality public environment in the historic core of Šternberk..

Restoration of the chateau in Velke Nemcice
Danková, Andrea ; Špiller, Martin (referee) ; Guzdek, Adam (advisor)
The topic of the bachelor's thesis is the restoration of the chateau in the village of Velké Němčice. The documentation is based on an architectural study processed within the subject AG033 Studio of Architectural Creation - Restoration of Monuments. The chateau is located in the historical center of the village, where it has been standing since the second half of the 16th century. It will primarily be used as a village office, but it will also have associated functions - an information center, a ceremonial room, a cafe, room for local associations and a municipal library. As part of the project, the wider area around the chateau will be transformed into an area worthy of the cultural and historical center of the village. The space will be modified as a park, which should be used for the recreation of local residents, at the same time, parking spaces and space for seasonal markets will be prepared. The proposed object has a U-shaped floor plan (the middle wing is on the east side, the other wings are north and south). The building has one underground floor, two above-ground floors and an attic. There is a hipped roof over almost the entire floor plan. Currently, part of the chateau is an extension from the 20th century in the central part of the western facade; however this extension will be removed. An extension with the function of a library will be added to the northern wing of the chateau. This extension will follow the historical building in its form and size, but the materials of its structures (glass facade, reinforced concrete skeleton support system) have been chosen so that the extension has a contrasting effect.
